January 1st, 2009 marks the five year anniversary of the North American Free Trade Agreement. It has not been an easy road for NAFTA. It is a subject that is continuously debated among citizens and economists as to whether or not the merits outweigh the demerits. The problem with most of the arguments is that the subject matter is not always fully understood and so it is only with half information that the debate ensues. You have to know both sides if you want to be informed.

Before the North American Free Trade Agreement, there were other trade agreements, such as the Canada Free Trade Agreement. It was already in place to help eliminate the need for huge taxes, tariffs and rules that governed the importation and exportation of materials, services and goods. This seemed to be working fine for most Americans but legislation pushed farther and wanted to include Mexico. This is when people began to have serious issues with the entire idea.

One of the main issues that people seem to have when it comes to NAFTA is the skilled trades losses. The deal resulted in lower quality merchandise and the under pricing of U.S. and Canadian materials. Many people will not pay $45.00 for a pair of jeans when they can get the same brand for $25.00. For free trade to actually work the traders must be on equal footing. There needs to be an even supply/demand for products that are within the same price range.

How can I get a good freelance programming job like the west outsourcing to India? I am not Indian neither live in india, I am Thai and live in Thailand. Although I have so many experience in programming but I found it’s so hard to get an oversee freelance programming job like I said. I have post and upload my resume to yahoo hot job. And try to bid on other freelance job bidding site. But it’s likely to fail, I get no jobs at all. How can I do?

Most of them and the family owned ones, are way down, many in the red and many folded. What small businesses are still in the black. My background is engineering but I do NOT have a PE cert and don’t plan to.

In the 1990’s, once such deal, named the North American Free Trade Agreement between Mexico, Canada and the United States, helped open the borders for free trade. People at once began to debate the ramifications of such a deal and how it would affect skilled trades and other matters of concern to US citizens.

The laws and regulations of the North American Free Trade Agreement can be downright boring at times and definitely confusing for someone who is not aware of how a trade deal works or how skilled trades among agreeing countries will be affected, but it is something about which you should have some knowledge. Trading goods is nothing new. Mankind has been doing it for millions of years. You need to know the basics if you want to get a clearer picture of how NAFTA works and how it can benefit or harm you and your job.

For free trade to work there has to be an agreement between two countries. The agreement allows for trade that has no tariffs, is not taxed nor imposed upon by laws that would change the pricing of the material. You should also know that it does not involve just merchandise. Jobs and skilled trades are also covered under free trade laws. For the most part, the basic principle is simple. One country sells another country its exports without worrying about price gouging or taxes levied on the imported items. There can be stipulations on the amount of goods traded between the two countries, similar to a cap on how much product can be imported or exported.

In recent years there has been an increase in skilled trades that have been traded across the globe. This kind of trade deal has occurred much quicker due to several factors. Free trade zones, faster communication, quicker transportation and multinational companies have all led to this increase in the rise of international trades. International trade is important as a source of revenue for all major countries and the economic power houses of the world. Countries such as the United States, Japan and the United Kingdom all push for free trade zones to help boost economic revenue for flagging, economically repressed countries.
